Alma Ní Choigligh joined the Irish diplomatic service in 1998.
Immediately prior to appointment as Ambassador of Ireland to Portugal (and Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and Angola) in August 2023, she served as acting Director General for EU Affairs in the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin from November 2022 to July 2023 and as Policy Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs from July 2021.
She served in Brexit-related posts from 2016 onwards, co-ordinating Brexit readiness across Government from 2018.
