BIONOTE, MARY O’DONNELL
Mary O’Donnell’s work includes eight poetry collections, four novels, three short story collections, translations from the German, and a growing body of personal essays. Her eighth poetry collection Massacre of the Birds (Salmon) appeared in 2020 and her latest novel is complete. Her two recent publications are a limited edition chapbook of poems, ‘Outsiders, Always’, from Southword Editions, Cork, and the Brazilian Portuguese translation of selected poems, Onde Estou Os Pássaros (Arte e Letras). She has taught Creative Writing at Galway University, Maynooth University, UCD and UCC, as well as for Carlow College Pittsburgh and the University of São Paulo, Brazil. She has held residencies at the Irish College in Paris (2012), at the Irish College in Leuven (2022), in Australia, and in the USA. Her work is translated to Hungarian, Spanish and Portuguese. She is a member of Aosdána. In 2025 her new poetry collection Jakkurpa, will be published in the USA by Wake Forest University Press, and the following year the collection Tenderness will appear in Ireland with Doire Press. www.maryodonnell.com
