ULICES Participates in the Inauguration of the Exhibition “Saving Lives at Sea”

ULICES was represented by its Board, Professors Angélica Varandas and William Cantú, as well as by Professors Teresa Malafaia and Nélia Cruz, members of the Travelling Memories project, at the Inauguration Ceremony of the temporary exhibition “Saving Lives at Sea – Portugal Neutral in a World at War (1939–1945)”. The event took place on 15 January 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Museu de Marinha, Praça do Império, in Lisbon.

The ceremony was presided over by His Excellency the Minister of National Defence, Dr. Nuno Melo, and brought together representatives from several institutions to mark the opening of this significant exhibition, which highlights Portugal’s humanitarian and maritime role during the Second World War.

ULICES remains firmly committed to the promotion of scientific research, historical reflection, and active engagement with initiatives that foster knowledge and public awareness of Portugal’s role in international contexts.
